The IOM has worked side by side with the Italian government since the beginning of the resettlement experience through the project “ITARES - Providing comprehensive resettlement support services” initiated in July 2015. From July 2016, the “FAIR - Facilitating the Resettlement to Italy of people in need of International protection by providing comprehensive Resettlement support services” project continues IOM’s support for the implementation of a comprehensive resettlement scheme for people in need of international protection, providing beneficiaries with a durable solution, and expressing solidarity with those developing countries that host the majority of the world’s refugees. FAIR’s objectives can be summarized as follows:
Prepare the socio-economic integration process of beneficiaries, by also contributing to better manage expectations;
Provide the Italian Ministry of Interior with useful information on how to best tailor future resettlement endeavors, by means of evaluating the impact of pre-departure support services provided;
Facilitate the transfer to Italy, in dignity and safety, of project’s beneficiaries identified by the Ministry of Interior; by extending pre-departure support services – health assessment, support for the issuance of visas and necessary travel documents, pre-departure fitness to travel to ensure all beneficiaries travel in the best possible conditions – as well as ensuring the transfers to the airport Leonardo da Vinci in Rome, and from here to the nearest airports of beneficiaries’ final destinations.
